Kenyan Prayer Requests:
HUDSON MUKUNZA OF THE KENYA HOUSE OF PRAYER AND THE CO-CHAIR OF THE EUROPE/AFRICA RECONCILIATION PARTNERSHIP SHARES THE FOLLOWING REPORT ON THE SITUATION FOLLOWING THE ELECTION IN KENYA FOR OUR PRAYERS:
"Calm is returning to the country, but the healing and resettlement of people will take more than a few years. Government conservative figures estimate 250,000 displaced people, but it could be twice that, according to the media.
We would urge you to pray with us:
- There seems to have been deep seated animosity in people which the present quest for peace may not do away with. Politicians have always depended on tribal strength and numbers either in voting or in oppressing others. Our prayer is that there will be deep healing, and dealing with tribal altars that have held the population in bondage. Pray for the healing of the land, as much blood has been shed. Pray that tribal repentance that has begun among believers will be deep, and will extend to national leaders (tribes repenting to each other for wrongs done recently and in the past).
- Ask God to dismantle evil, satanic structures in the tribes that perpetuate wars and tribal pride that leads to hatred of others.
- We have had peace as a nation but we realize we have always covered wrongs and ills that have happened in our nation in the past that have bottled up anger in the heart of the populace. Kindly pray that in this season not only peace, but justice from God will bring total healing to the hearts of people (Amos 5:24).
- The imbalances that we have in Kenya to a certain extent played into it. The people who live in the slums are bitter against the rest, whom they perceive are responsible for their misery, since they live well. Pray that this issue will be addressed expeditiously. Kenya is one of the most unequal nations in terms of resource distribution.
- We see, obviously, that our politicians do not care for the nation, but personal interests or protection of their individual tribes. Pray with us that many will be humbled and will seek the welfare of the nation. We saw the height of political arrogance and total lack of feelings for the people and the nation. Pray indeed that God will remember Kenya and give her servant leaders.
- Pray that God will intervene in the political crisis we have. President Kufour, who is the African Union chairman, will be arriving on Jan 8th evening for a dialogue meeting between Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga on the 9th. Pray that a way forward for the nation will be found that favors God's purpose for Kenya.
- Pray that Kenya will emerge from this crisis stronger and better. The International Media has had a field day in our country to show how bad we have fallen and to say that Kenya will never recover from this. We refuse that, in Jesus name, and pray that God will be merciful to heal the wounded, restore the hurting and those that lost much and that He will restore Kenya back to His plan in our generation.
We are very sorry for the pain and inconvenience we caused our neighbors, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and East DRC, for disrupting fuel supplies and other supplies through our port during the chaos. May the Lord forgive Kenya for hurting your economies.
Bless you richly and thank you for support. We are meeting at Kenya House of Prayer daily fasting and praying for the situation in Kenya."
